House of Lords Event

On Wednesday 1 June 2022 the Institute of Legal and Constitutional Research held a reception attended by alumni and friends at the House of Lords, to promote its work and to offer networking opportunities.

We were very kindly hosted by the Chancellor of the University of St Andrews, Lord Campbell of Pittenweem. Also in attendance were the Principal Dame Sally Mapstone, former Lord Chancellor Lord Falconer, ILCR Advisory Board members Daniel Greenberg (Counsel for Domestic Legislation in the House of Commons) and Mark D. West (Dean, University of Michigan Law School), and ILCR Steering Committee member Jim Gallagher (formerly member of Cabinet Office and now Honorary Professor, University of St Andrews).

The Chancellor and then the Principal spoke with characteristic eloquence of the work of the Institute. They were followed by former scholarship holders on the MLitt in Legal and Constitutional Research, Karen Katiyo and Richard Nicholl, who spoke inspiringly about how the scholarship had allowed them to undertake the MLitt and how the MLitt had led them forward in their careers, in Karen’s case to a PhD, in Richard’s to a pupillage at 1 Essex Court chambers.

It was a great pleasure to see St Andrews alumni and connections from across the decades.  For more information about how you can support the Institute and get involved with its future events, please contact John Hudson ([email protected]) or Caroline Humfress ([email protected]).
