My name is Alasdair Wilde and since completing the MLitt in Legal and Constitutional Studies (2018-2019) I have been employed in the Admissions department here at the University of St Andrews. I have held several roles, starting off as an Admissions Representative, in essence a graduate scheme, before specialising into the UK and Europe, before finally reaching my current position 
as UK Regional Manager.
It is no understatement to say that when I think back about my time as a student at the University of St Andrews, my time undertaking the MLitt is what I recollect most fondly. Beyond a fond reminiscence of my peers and all the good times we had, however, is the reality that the skills I developed and honed as part of the programme continue to serve me every day in my current role. From the parsing of policy and statutory documents to my ability to write and construct arguments compellingly, the MLitt truly prepared me well for working in fast paced and detail orientated role.
The research skills, and more deeply beyond that, the confidence I gained undertaking my dissertation, also have stuck with me. I was given ample support, and, most importantly, freedom, to develop and come up with a topic slightly out of left field (looking at music copyright!). This experience was truly wonderful, and when, for example, I am researching and writing policy papers, it is this valuable time I spent on my MLitt dissertation that time and time again sees me right.
Finally, I think the MLitt really cemented in me a passion for learning. Since graduating, alongside my full-time role I have undertaken another master’s programme (an MSc in International Education) and have recently signed up for a PGCert in Data Science! A glutton for punishment perhaps, but I credit the MLitt with setting me up for the success I enjoy to this day. If I could do it all again, (or maybe a PhD someday…), I would do it in a heartbeat.
