A Visiting Scholar position is available for a nine-month appointment commencing 1 October 2016 at Georgetown University Law Center. The Visiting Scholar will join a project in progress, drafting the volume in The Oxford History of the Laws of England covering the reign of George III. It is led by Professor James Oldham, St. Thomas More Professor of Law and Legal History, in collaboration with Dr Victoria Barnes. This project examines in depth the developing law in the common law courts and in the court of chancery in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
Applicants should have a strong academic background with a PhD (or near completion) in history, a law degree, or an advanced degree in a related discipline. Familiarity with sources of English law in the George III period and experience with archival research are desirable. Applicants should be able to demonstrate excellent research and organizational skills, as well as an ability to work independently and as part of a team. The salary will be $53,500, per annum (prorated for the nine months) plus benefits.
